Updated Photos of the Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier Construction

November 21, 2010 in Falmouth Photos by Brian Elliott

Yesterday, I took a walk down by a section of the Pier construction, close to the Court House and took a few photos to gauge the progress of the construction. Here are some of the photos along with two of the old Ministry of Agriculture (RADA) building, that will be a part of the pier development in the future. By the way, the RADA office has been relocated to Duncans, like the Courts Office, like the JLP office. Duncans might one day end up as the administrative capital of Trelawny as the development gobbles up Falmouth’s real estate.

Photos From LIME Promotion in Water Square

November 21, 2010 in Falmouth Photos by Brian Elliott

Telecommunications company LIME (formerly Cable and Wireless Jamaica Ltd) had a big $1500 promotion in Water Square yesterday, pulling in more people than normal for this type of promotion. The reason? LIME has signed most of Jamaica’s biggest Dancehall entertainers, so it was expected that all of them would be there. In the end, there was Leftside, Aidonia and Mavado. Missing were Elephant Man, Cecile and Beenie Man. Thanks to member @lippy1 for contributing some of the photos. Here are some photos of the event:

Dennis Meadows Under Fire For Senate Motion To Eventually Criminalise Squatting

November 20, 2010 in Falmouth News by Brian Elliott

Senator Dennis Meadows, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Caretaker for Northern Trelawny is in ‘damage control’ mode after a recent statement he made that has left constituents fuming. I did not hear the original broadcast but all everyone keeps talking about is that Dennis Meadows said that squatting is illegal, slightly different from what was said in Parliament, but enough to cause a huge problem in his political career. As a politician, you have to be sensitive. There are numerous squatter settlements in the parish and the easiest and most popular means of ‘owning’ somewhere to live is to capture

J$8Billion Housing Development and University Campus For Holland Estate, Martha Brae

November 19, 2010 in Falmouth News by Brian Elliott

Trelawny is the place to be! In a previous post entitled: “ Massive Housing Developments in Trelawny Brings Sewage To Hague, I stated that there were so many proposed housing developments that I can’t keep pace with them. Here is another one to add to the list. The Gleaner, in an article entitled: “J$8b university town for Holland Estate” is reporting that developers have bought 192 acres of land, known as Holland Estates (where the Papaya Farm was located right next to William Knibb High School). The property was owned by the Muschette family who seem to own about 1/4

Many Opposed to The Pedestrianization of Water Square, Falmouth

November 18, 2010 in Falmouth News, Falmouth Pier by Brian Elliott

Ever since the pedestrianizing of Water Square was announced, there has been widespread debate in local circles as to whether or not it is a good idea. I went to a UDC meeting a couple of months ago and the meeting was set to discuss the proposed temporary changes in traffic plans for Falmouth to test its feasibility. Almost the entire meeting was spent debating the proposed pedestrianization with some business interests fervently opposed. The idea is to offer visitors traffic free movement to be able to enjoy their viewing and shopping experience without having to worry about safety when

Police Flood the Town of Falmouth

November 18, 2010 in Falmouth News by Brian Elliott

For the past two weeks, there has been a flood of fresh, young police into Falmouth, amazing everyone with their numbers as we have never seen so many police in the town…ever (at least in the short time I have been on earth). Policemen and women, in large groups can be seen on beat duty. I counted over 15 of them together in one instance in Water Square. We are wondering if they are here as part of the expected visitor arrivals at the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Pier in January. If so, this is a good sign for the

Walmart Coming To The Falmouth Pier?

November 17, 2010 in Falmouth Pier by Brian Elliott

Image via Wikipedia Rumors are swirling around in Falmouth that the Waltons will be coming to the Falmouth Cruise Shipping Pier. Walmart, the largest retail chain in the world are rumored to be coming to the Falmouth Pier when construction on the multi-million dollar port  is completed. This re-enforces the fear of Falmouth businesses that they will gain little or nothing from the introduction of the pier. This is exemplified by the lack of preparedness from the local business community for the future opportunities that could possibly accrue from the Royal Caribbean Falmouth Cruise Shipping Pier. The pier already seems

Appoint an Impartial Project Coordinator for the Falmouth Pier Development

November 17, 2010 in Falmouth Pier by Patrick Beckford

Image via Wikipedia I read with much amusement (sic) today a story of Minister Montague criticizing the Trelawny Parish Council for its inability to communicate with the populace of Falmouth and the business community regarding the pier development, missed deadlines and most importantly the disjointed manner each agencies seem to go about the business of this important project. I could start by saying “I told you so”! When this project was announced in 2006, I dusted off my “College Project” I did several years prior on “Development of a Business”, the significance of this was I completed what was an
