Housing Explosion in Falmouth, Trelawny

The new housing estate in Hague under construction
Falmouth is expanding at a rapid rate. I have no data on the statistic, but it should be fair to say that Falmouth is the fastest growing town in Jamaica. I would love to know a town in the country that is growing faster.

The Falmouth view
At the moment, apart from the boom in new businesses in response to the Falmouth Pier development and its spin-offs, the most noticeable growth is in housing solutions. Hundreds of houses are being built and hundreds more are due in the next few years. Holland Estates, Florence Hall Village and Stonebrook are the three major housing estates that will bring thousands of new immigrants into Falmouth, Trelawny and are all located within a 2-3 mile radius of the Falmouth town center (Water Square).

New housing estate under construction in Hague
Stonebrok construction has actually reached far west to the old Hague Housing Scheme, and Florence Hall Village is ‘travelling’ on its way eastward to the Cooper’s Pen main road which means housing solutions will sprawl from the Coopers Pen Main Road and almost meet Martha Brae (where Holland Estate is located).

The scene from Hague as the hill has been cleared to make way for the 'approaching' houses
Meanwhile in Hague, the construction noise gets louder each day as the Stonebrook houses approach the Hague Housing Scheme. This afternoon, I took my camera and went up the hill and took the photos featured here to record yet another chapter in the metamorphosis of our parish, Trelawny…the place to be in Jamaica.

any news on when they will start (if at all) privatizing our two beaches as we grow and “develop”.
No, someone was trying to get a lease for Burwood but no word or indications yet as to any success. I don’t think anyone should get a lease for our beaches, unless it is conditional that locals are free to use the facilities.
Sure. Remember how they promised residents would be allowed on the new pier?
Annieanne, I will not be surprised if they ‘sell us out.’ That has been the norm from as long as I can remember.
well make sure if anything goes down with a vote u guys protest or whatever is necessary to protect our beaches.. they have been public forever and i personally would like them to remain as such.
If they lease the beaches, I don’t think there will be much opposition. One problem with us as a people is we are not resolute. We only protest for a day and that’s it. We might just grumble and not even protest at all. The decision makers (the politicians) know that come elections, it will not be a factor in our decision making. No surprise that we get the worst of everything…everytime!
so..its the government who has the authority to lease the beach? local or what? enlighten me as i am ignorant to the process.
btw… is there a way to get notified when responses are made to a post i comment on?
The beaches are (Half Moon Bay and Burwood) are owned by the local government (Trelawny Parish Council).
Oneekah, you raised a good question about post responses. I am going to add a feature where you can follow post comments and get notified by email each time a comment is added. Thanks.
Done. You can now tick this box under the comment box that says:
“Notify me of followup comments via e-mail. You can also subscribe without commenting.”
You will subsequently be alerted each time a comment is posted on that topic. Thanks for commenting!
I happened to stay at Stoneybrook in January and I am impressed by the development in and around Falmouth. As a Real Estate professional I see great things in the future in housing. Real Estate is the surest bet for employment as every new house built and sold is guaranteeing 2 new employees. The infrastructure in and around Falmouth need to catch up with the Pier and the housing boom and then we will be be on our way to be ‘Mandeville’ of the North Coast.
