Big Strike at the Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier as it Prepares to Welcome First Cruise Ship
January 3, 2011 in Falmouth News, Falmouth Pier by Postmaster
There was a big industrial action on the Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier construction today as workers walked off the job in protest for better wages.
The cruise ship pier development should have been in high gear this week as the first ship is due to dock in 4 days time on the 7th of January when Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas, a smaller ship with fewer guests on board is expected to berth. Instead, the Falmouth construction site resembled a ghost town, with many of the workers congregated at the gate. Workers have long been complaining of mediocre wages and they have seized the opportunity to capitalise on the authority’s thrust to get things in plce by Friday.
It is not sure how long the industrial action will continue but one thing for sure, it will further threaten the ability of the facility to welcome the first ship on Friday.
Photos of the strike can be seen here on Falmouth Photos.
