Falmouth Bypass Bridge Construction 2003- 2004 Pictures

Falmouth Bypass Bridge Construction - Pictures The Falmouth Bypass Bridge was constructed in 2004 as part of the North Coast Highway Project. It is located just outside Martha Brae and links the north coast with the rest of the island. For Trelawny, it is the major link between Falmouth and the communities to the south. It helps to extend the reach of Market Street from Falmouth to Martha Brae. One of the duties of this site is to preserve the modern history of our town and parish. While going through my photo archive today, I came upon some photos I took from

Housing Explosion in Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica

Housing Explosion in Falmouth, Trelawny Falmouth is expanding at a rapid rate. I have no data on the statistic, but it should be fair to say that Falmouth is the fastest growing town in Jamaica. Time For Trelawny To Highlight Its Son Hugh Lawson Shearer, Former Prime Minister of Jamaica?

I was shooting some photos for a feature on Martha Brae last Labour Day and I came across the house in which Jamaica’s third Prime Minister was born and grew up in until he won a parish scholarship and left for Kingston. Hugh Lawson Shearer was born and raised in Martha Brae, 1.5 miles from Falmouth, yet many residents do not talk about it or make it known. A lot of that is due to Shearer’s perceived neglect of Falmouth and some due to our lack of respect for history. I bet most Trelawny residents do not know Shearer’s house.

Why Martha Brae Will Be The Boom Town Of The Future In Trelawny

Martha Brae , back in 1770 became the first capital of the new parish of Trelawny, after St. James was divided to provide a new parish. St. James was split after many Trelawny landowners complained of the distance they had to travel to Montego Bay to conduct business. Martha Brae is an inland community situated 1.5 miles from Falmouth and the sea. Its famous river now has a world renowned attraction, ‘Rafting on the Martha Brae.’ Back in the 18th century, goods were sent down the river to the sea to be loaded on ships. The capital was moved to
