Usain is a phenomenon, the fastest man In the world and the first man to repeat victories in the 100 metres and 200 metres at two Olympic Games. William Knibb vs Muschette in DaCosta Cup Football 2012 Yesterday, I took a rare trip to my Alma Mater, William Knibb to witness the local DaCosta Cup derby between William Knibb and Muschette High. Both teams have fought some good battles over the years, whenever they are lucky or unlucky to be placed in the same zone. The DaCosta Cup is played between schools outside the Corporate area (Kingston and St Andrew) and the Spanish Town/Portmore area of St. Catherine. Olympian Pablo McNeil, Usain Bolt’s First Coach Is Dead

Pablo McNeil, the first coach of phenomenal sprinter Usain Bolt, has died at the age of 71. ‘Pablo Mac’ as he is locally known, had long suffered from hypertension. McNeil, himself a former Olympian, is credited for seeing the potential in Usain and encouraging him to make the transition from his then favorite game, cricket to Track and Field. It was not an easy transition for Bolt, as Pablo McNeil reportedly had to coerce Bolt to train in the early year. Congratulations to our parish’s most famous son, Usain Bolt on the release of his new book entitled: Usain Bolt: My Story: 9.58: Being the World’s Fastest Man I ran through a copy today and was surprised at how much respect he had for my former primary school teacher Lorna Thorpe, who taught him at William Knibb. She is featured in one of his chapters. Usain Bolt Gives Back To Trelawny and Gets a House In Return

Image by José Goulão via Flickr Usain Bolt made four stops in Trelawny on Saturday that had great implications for the parish. The most significant stop was in Sherwood Content, where Usain officially re-opened the Sherwood Content Clinic that he refurbished with proceeds from his 9.58 concert held in St. Ann last year. The refurbishing of the health center was undertaken in collaboration with Trelawny Health Department, the People Co-operative Bank, Sagicor, Digicel, Capital Credit Security, United Way and Sherwin-Williams.
