How FalmouthPO.com Works

Trelawny Parish
Parish of Trelawny

I would just like to give you an insight as to how the FalmouthPO.com community was designed to work.

Blog

It was intended to be built around discussions generated by member posted content, not only content from the Postmaster. That is why everyone is given the choice of a blog when joining so they could have their own permanent, powerful medium with which to make their voices heard in whatever area or areas they choose.

Each blog post will be seen by everyone on the main site and they can be commented on, whether directly on the blog or on the activity page. The blog will be a collection of your articles in one place.

What is a blog? Many people still don’t understand the need or meaning of a blog. A blog is derived from the term Web Log, which in the early days was a record of your daily online activities (something like a diary). Blogs have exploded and have become more complex. This website is a fine example as it is made from a blog. In its simplest form though, it allows individual expression and if you are a good writer, you can develop quite a following and earn money from it. In your search engine searches (when you ‘Google’ for example) most of the top results are from blogs, as they are seen as good disseminators of information.

Many users will not be familiar with WordPress, the number one blogging platform, so I have made a small blog to explain the basics of WordPress so that Falmouth PO members can take full advantage of the opportunity to have their own blog. You see how easy it is to make your own blog at Falmouth PO’s WordPress Blog.

With your own blog, you can add your blog post summaries to your Facebook profile and start another discussion there and get even more readers to subscribe to your blog.

You do not have to maintain a blog at FalmouthPO.com, but it is encouraged.

Socialise

There is also the social aspect of our site for members who just want to interact, meet people, post their photos/videos and make friends.

Groups

Another integral feature of Falmouth PO is the ability to form groups. Trelawny is a small parish but let’s face it, many of us don’t even know each other. Groups allow us the opportunity to interact with people of similar history, interests and experience while still being a part of the wider community. Groups are perfect for everyone and you can have your own private invitation only members group. Anyone can start a group with full functionalities. Your group can have their:

1.       Own blog (where some or all members contribute articles)

2.       Own Forum

3.       Own Wiki

I have created some groups to kick-start the online community but I would like to see members start creating their own and invite friends to join.

Forums

The forums give us the chance for more real time interaction on relevant topics. A Village United forum for example will give members the opportunity to voice their concerns about the team and share ideas on how to make improvements. As the groups grow, the forums will become even more effective.

Classifieds

A community service module that allows for free (for now) posting of classified ads. If you need a job, have a vacancy, have something to sell, are looking for someone, need a house to rent, have a car to sell…..anything like that can be placed in the classified section of this site. The ad will be held for a maximum of 30 days.

Falmouth News

Falmouth News page presents Falmouth from an international, online perspective. Google and Yahoo News Feeds pull the most outstanding Trelawny news from news providers worldwide and is updated in real time.

Falmouth PO

Falmouth PO is the official main blog of this community and will feature articles mainly based on Trelawny’s current affairs and news along with administrative posts related to managing the website.

FAQ

The FAQ page (Frequently Asked Questions) gives you answers to regular problems that members may encounter while using his website. Just look for your question and clicking will reveal the answer.

Privacy Policy /Terms & Conditions

The Privacy Policy describes how we will handle your personal information while the Terms & Conditions page lays out the legal boundaries within which the members and website operate. In other words, the do’s and the don’ts. It is suggested that you read the Terms and Conditions before you become a member.

Links

The links page is our online Link Directory where you can add your website links, whether it is your site hosted at Falmouth PO, another site you have, or one that you like.

Events

The events module allows members to post their events whether a party, promotion, sporting event or public event. The events will also show as a widget in the sidebar so they are constantly viewable.

These are just the main features of the site. Other attributes will be added as time goes by.

  • Don

This site is a great community service Brian. It is especially helpful to us who are Falmouthians in the diaspora. Thanks for helping us stay connected!
